SNOW LEOPARD TRIP TO SPITI HIMALAYAS, HIMACHAL PRADESH, INDIA

Experience a once-in-a-lifetime 10-day Snow Leopard Expedition in the breathtaking Spiti Valley. Track the elusive Snow Leopard across the rugged landscapes of Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary while discovering the incredible wildlife, dramatic Himalayan scenery, and unique culture of one of the world's highest inhabited regions.

Day 1 :
Morning flight Delhi to Chandigarh. Drive from Chandigarh airport to Rampur Busahr (250km drive/ 8 hrs). Night stay at hotel in Rampur. Hotel Nau Nabh, Rampur.

Day 2 :
Breakfast and afterwards, Drive to KAZA village (10,000ft.) (280km / 10 hrs drive from Rampur). Luggage transfer in hotel.

Day 3 :
Breakfast after words, we will do a safari drive to the nearby possible Snow Leopard Locations and also look for other wildlife. Since it’s the first day of field and body needs some time for acclimatization

Day 4 :
All our trackers will be active on field since the early morning time and we are allowed to join them only after 7:30 am in the morning. We will complete our breakfast by the time and join our team on field. All our guests will be accompanied by a personal helper cum porter. While the trackers are busy o field looking for the Snow Leopard , we will try to look for other birds and wildlife. Our field time is till 5pm in the afternoon; as per the forest department rule and it might increased by few minutes as per the situation and sighting.

Day 5 :
Full day in the field, Snow Leopard tracking activity. Apart from the Snow Leopard, Kibber Sanctuary offers one the best opportunities to see mammals like Himalayan Ibex, Blue Sheep, Red Fox, Himalayan Wolf etc. There are some chances to see smaller mammals like Weasel, Stone Marten, Wolly hare etc.

Day 6 :
Full day in the field, Snow Leopard tracking activity. The area has some beatiful birds like Chukar Patridge, Himalayan Snowcock, White winged Redstart, Brown Accentor, Black throated Accentor, Great Rosefinch, Robin Accentor etc.

We need to start our return drive early in the morning on 10th Day and will cover a distance of 450 kilometers to Rampur Busahr town, Overnight stay at hotel in Rampur.

Early departure for Chandigarh (250 kilometers distance/ 8 hrs drive in hilly terrain). Evening flight from Chandigarh to Delhi. Transferred to hotel in Delhi.

Plan Your Journey

Food

Kibber is remote place and it becomes more difficult during winters. We carry fresh vegetables, Paneer and Chicken from Shimla or lower places and it’s hard to serve different kind of dishes. So we provide staple food, yet fresh. For breakfast we will provide Bread toast, eggs, Jam, Corn flakes etc. While lunch will mostly be served on field; veg Khichdi or Pulao. In the dinner we shall provide chicken, paneer or eggs, based on the availability.

Unlike Kibber, our stay at Tumling offers a better food availability to our guests. Guests will get local cuisines as well as a few continental and chinese dishes.

Hiking

Hiking in Snow is a compulsory part of Snow Leopard tour. Every day we have to hike for 1kilometer to 5kilometers in snow. Most of the times we need to hike about 400-500 meters in snow from the road. Our field vehicle will take us to nearest motorable distance and we have to cover the remaining distance on foot. At times the our trackers find the leopard quite far from motorable road and we might have a trek for a few Kilometers.

While the trek part in snow leopard is tedious, hike in temperate Himalayan forest in search of Red Panda is easier than Snow leopard expedition. The hike varies from 500 meters to 2 to 3 kilometers.

Physical Ability

To complete a Snow Leopard Expedition you need a good physical and mental stamina. Although in recent years the Leopards are sighted nearby the roads and you need to trek for maximum 500 mt to 1 Km, but at times it is sighted in difficult terrains and you might walk in snow for 3-4 kms. So it is advised to start regular exercise at least a month before the tour.

Winter Gear

To attend a Snow Leopard Expedition, one must have proper winter clothing and walking gear. We have a separate list of the gears with suggested links of the products.
