BIRDING TOUR ASSAM & ARUNACHAL PRADESH
Embark on a 16-day birding adventure through Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, exploring some of India's finest birding destinations. Search for rare Himalayan and endemic bird species across lush forests, wetlands, grasslands, and mountain landscapes in one of the world's richest biodiversity hotspots.
Day 01: Guwahati – Nameri National Park
Arrive at Guwahati and drive to Nameri National Park, a renowned birding destination nestled in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas along the Jia-Bhoroli River. Home to over 300 bird species, Nameri offers excellent opportunities to spot rare birds including the White-winged Wood Duck, Great Pied Hornbill, Rufous-necked Hornbill, Ibisbill, Black Stork, and Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher. Check in to the Eco Camp and enjoy an evening of birdwatching. Overnight stay at Nameri.
Day 02: Nameri – Lama Camp (Eaglenest Wild Life Sanctuary)
After breakfast, drive to Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary with a birding stop at Sessa Orchid Sanctuary en route. Arrive at Lama Camp in the afternoon. Renowned as one of the world's finest birding destinations, Eaglenest is home to over 650 bird species and diverse habitats ranging from tropical forests to high-altitude Himalayan ecosystems. Key target species include the rare Bugun Liocichla, Ward's Trogon, Beautiful Nuthatch, Rufous-necked Hornbill, and numerous Wren-Babblers and Laughingthrushes. The sanctuary is also a biodiversity hotspot supporting Red Panda, Clouded Leopard, and other Himalayan wildlife. Overnight at Lama Camp.
Day 03: Lama Camp – Bomphu (Eaglenest Wild Life Sanctuary)
Early morning have breakfast and start birding towards Bompu Camp. We will be doing bird watching on foot and also drive to the points for birds. Packed lunch will be served Enroute. Overnight Bompu Birding Camp.
Day 04: Bomphu (Eaglenest Wild Life Sanctuary)
Spend the day birding in the rich forests of Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary, searching for rare specialties including the Bugun Liocichla, Blyth’s and Temminck’s Tragopans, Ward’s Trogon, Rufous-necked Hornbill, Beautiful Nuthatch, Fire-tailed Myzornis, and Himalayan Cutia. The area is also renowned for its diverse babblers, laughingthrushes, warblers, parrotbills, cochoas, robins, and other Himalayan bird species. Overnight at Bompu Birding Camp.
Day 05: Bomphu (Eaglenest Wild Life Sanctuary)
Full day in the field, Snow Leopard tracking activity. Apart from the Snow Leopard, Kibber Sanctuary offers one the best opportunities to see mammals like Himalayan Ibex, Blue Sheep, Red Fox, Himalayan Wolf etc. There are some chances to see smaller mammals like Weasel, Stone Marten, Wolly hare etc.
Day 06: Bomphu – Lama Camp (Eaglenest Wild Life Sanctuary)
Enjoy a full day exploring the remarkable biodiversity of Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary, one of Asia's premier birding destinations. Look for iconic species including the Bugun Liocichla, Ward’s Trogon, Beautiful Nuthatch, Rufous-necked Hornbill, and various Tragopans and Wren-Babblers. The sanctuary also supports exceptional wildlife, including Red Panda, Clouded Leopard, and other Himalayan mammals. Later, return to Lama Camp for an overnight stay.
Day 07: Lama Camp – Dirang
Today after breakfast do some birding in surrounding areas of the camp and then drive to Dirang (04 hrs drive), reach Dirang and check into hotel, evening at leisure and overnight stay.
Day 08: Dirang – Sella - Dirang
Explore the spectacular birding habitats of Sangti Valley and Sela Pass, ranging from lush valley wetlands to high-altitude Himalayan landscapes. Search for specialty species including Black-necked Crane, Ibisbill, Blood Pheasant, Himalayan Monal, Snow Partridge, Grandala, and Gould’s Shortwing. The remote Mandala-Phudung forests also offer opportunities to spot rare Himalayan birds and the elusive Red Panda. Return to Dirang for an overnight stay.
Day 09: Dirang –Kaziranga
Today drive straight to Kaziranga NP (10 hrs drive), check in dinner and overnight stay.
Day 10: Kaziranga – Dibrugarh
Explore the rich wetlands of Maguri Beel, a renowned birding hotspot within the Dibru-Saikhowa Biosphere Reserve. This important habitat attracts a variety of resident and migratory birds, including Black-throated Parrotbill, Jerdon’s Babbler, Swamp Francolin, Baikal Teal, Bar-headed Goose, and Ferruginous Duck. Enjoy morning and afternoon birding sessions before an overnight stay at Maguri Beel Camp.
Day 10: Kaziranga – Dibrugarh
Explore the rich wetlands of Maguri Beel, a renowned birding hotspot within the Dibru-Saikhowa Biosphere Reserve. This important habitat attracts a variety of resident and migratory birds, including Black-throated Parrotbill, Jerdon’s Babbler, Swamp Francolin, Baikal Teal, Bar-headed Goose, and Ferruginous Duck. Enjoy morning and afternoon birding sessions before an overnight stay at Maguri Beel Camp.
Day 11: Dibrugarh – Roing
Journey into the remote and wildlife-rich Mishmi Hills, one of the Eastern Himalayas' most pristine birding destinations. En route, explore the Jia grasslands along the Dibang River, searching for specialty species including Black-throated, Greater Rufous-headed, Grey-headed, and Pale-billed Parrotbills, along with Jerdon’s Babbler and Marsh Babbler. Surrounded by dense forests and dramatic Himalayan landscapes, continue birding near the Dibang Valley Jungle Camp before an overnight stay in the heart of this remarkable wilderness.
Day 12: Roing
Spend the day exploring the lower-elevation forests and riverine habitats of the Mishmi Hills, one of the most biodiverse and least-explored regions of the Eastern Himalayas. Search for specialty birds including the endemic Mishmi Wren-Babbler, Rufous-necked Hornbill, Beautiful Nuthatch, Purple and Green Cochoas, Slender-billed Scimitar Babbler, and a variety of flycatchers, woodpeckers, and babblers. The region's rich evergreen forests offer exceptional birding opportunities amid spectacular wilderness. Overnight at Dibang Valley Jungle Camp.
Day 13: Roing
Proceed to Mayudia Pass at 2600m above mean sea level. Birding on the way near Tiwarigaon. Afternoon birding near Mayudia Coffee House Homestay. Overnight at the Homestay.Look out for an array of birds including Ward’s Trogon, Fire-tailed Myzornis, Coral-billed Scimitar Babbler, Crimson-browed Finch, Scarlet Finch, Black-headed Greenfinch, Darjeeling Woodpecker, Pale-billed Woodpecker, Green-tailed Sunbird, Fire-tailed Sunbird, Mountain Scops Owl, and Himalayan Wood Owl. Overnight stay.
Day 14: Roing – Digboi
Explore the lush rainforests of Dehing Patkai, one of Northeast India’s richest birding destinations, home to over 330 bird species. Search for spectacular mixed-species flocks featuring minivets, drongos, leafbirds, orioles, woodpeckers, and babblers. Highlights may include Red-headed Trogon, Greater Necklaced Laughingthrush, White-browed Piculet, Pale-capped Pigeon, and the rare Austen’s Brown Hornbill. The forests around Digboi also offer excellent opportunities to spot Oriental Bay Owl and several hornbill species. Overnight stay in Digboi.
Day 15: Digboi – Dibrugarh
Enjoy a final morning of birding in the biodiverse forests of Dehing Patkai and the Digboi region. Look for a variety of babblers, laughingthrushes, owls, and hornbills, including White-crested Laughingthrush, Abbott’s Babbler, Oriental Bay Owl, and the elusive Austen’s Brown Hornbill. After exploring this remarkable rainforest ecosystem, drive to Dibrugarh for an overnight stay.
Day 16: Dibrugarh – Fly
Drive to Dibrugarh Airport for onward destination.
